Environmental Issues In The Canadian Federal Election. The final project result for POLI 308D.

Environment.Elect2019.CA is the final outcome for POLI 308D. The project team intensively spent nearly 2 months developing this website for the October, 21st federal election.

Here is an excerpt from the main page to explain the purpose of Environment.Elect2019.CA:

"Our goal is to help inform Canadian voters on environmental issues dominating this 2019 federal election in an easy manner. There is a large amount of information circling the internet, news, and media, and it can be a challenge to navigate through it all. Our team, which is consists of six UBC political science students, compiled information on seven key environmental issues being addressed in this election. Each issue includes a detailed description of its history, its economic and environmental effects, and how each political party addresses said issue. The hope is that each viewer leaves our site better informed on important issues, and has a more confident idea on who they would like to vote for."

Learning Significance

  1. This project was the amalgamation of hard and soft skills and as well as the application of political science. As a political science student, most of the work we do is theory-based and behind the scenes so to speak. To be able to apply what we know and showcase it to the public was gratifying, to say the least. Collectively the project enabled me to sharpen skills I previously had and develop new ones.

Putting together a website like this in the short amount of time we had requires thoughtful strategizing, collaboration, organization, and motivation. I am very proud of the work that was achieved by the project team. There were challenges along the way such as the time constraints, technical limitations of the web builder, and accountability commitments. However, strong communication and adaptability of the team enabled us to achieve a polished and informative website product.
