As Director you are in charge of the General Assembly committee, delegate affairs, and the dais (staff). The Model UN conference is based on the real United Nations format and we discuss and solve major international issues through debate and group resolutions that the committee can vote to pass on.
The primary topic was "Helping and Empowering Youth in Conflict Zones". This was achieved by addressing the root causes such as intra-state conflict, education, poverty, infrastructure, international gangs in South America, and increasing security measures in the Middle East, and multi-national intelligence sharing.
As I use to delegate quite often, it was a fantastic learning experience being on the other side of the dais table, as Director. While the topic was "helping and empowering youth in conflict zones" I felt that as the Director, and as a positive leader was mostly about empowering this group of intelligent, articulate, and caring delegates. Many of them were new to this concept of MUN so sharing my experience and leading the conference in a way that accommodates them while meeting our objectives was satisfying and rewarding.
